A fresh talent to watch is Rom Cumagun whose short video entitled “Mr. Smoker” was shown recently on IBC-13 “Brodkast Worsyap,” hosted by Lloyd Samartino and directed by Gigi Alfonso. “Mr. Smoker,” an experimental which utilised found objects, tackled anti-smoking sentiments.

Rom, who’s currently assistant director-scriptwriter of the TV show “Boyoyong,” is a graduate of Communication Arts from Ateneo de Manila University. He participated in a Mowelfund Film Institute Film & video Directing Workshop conducted by Nick Deocampo and has completed the Cultural Center of the Philippines Play Writing Workshop under Rene O. Villanueva and Radio Scriptwriting Workshop conducted by James B Reuter‘s staff at the National Office of Mass Media.

Rom was production manager for Sonolux Asia, directing and writing educational audio-visual productions for four years, before venturing into freelance TV directing and scriptwriting. Among his video productions include “I Love Stereo Music” and “Blackout sa Bahay,” both experimental videos produced as workshop pieces for Mowelfund. His plan now is to direct independent and mainstream TV and film productions.
