First and foremost let’s define product placement; for those who don’t know what product placement is but I’m pretty sure you do, product placement is an advertising technique used by companies to subtly promote their products through a non-traditional advertising technique, usually through appearances in film, television, or other media.
Beats Pill product placement from Nicki Minaj’s new music video Anaconda.
In our generation product placement plays a big role in advertising now that the media and technology has been innovating and evolving in many ways that it could help one company/product to promote itself and sell. Product placement is broad, it can be found in films, tv series, video games and now in music videos too.
Coca Cola in American Idol
Nike in Back To The Future
Just recently I’ve watched a major motion film (hint: buff turtles that can execute mixed martial arts and Megan Fox), I can’t stop laughing (though it’s an adventure packed action movie) but most of every scene has a product placement. From devices to pizza to fashion brands, product placement is all I can see and that most of the time I couldn’t concentrate to the plot of the film itself for predicting another product might pop somewhere.
Product placement has it advantages and disadvantages, but what can we do, advertising itself is playful and mind boggling!
